Christmas is coming (in case you hadn’t noticed)
It’s that time of year when we are concentrating on what to buy for whoever and things like insurance and security maybe don’t get enough consideration.
Most retail and some of the better household policies have an automatic uplift in sums insured in the period leading up to Christmas but not all so it would be sensible to check if you do have items on your premises additional to the norm.
It would be sensible to ensure that any valuables are kept out of sight of the windows and, especially, out of reach. When you have items in your car, they must be kept in the boot or covered luggage compartment. Many insurers will not pay out for theft from unattended vehicles if the items are not kept out of sight.
Please also make sure that your Christmas lights do not overload your electrical system. A client of mine a few years ago found themselves without a house to live in over Christmas and the New Year thanks to an electrical fire. The policy did cover alternative accommodation but that was difficult to find at that time of year and they ended up in a chain hotel some 30 miles from home.
